Take this medicine exactly as directed. Swallow extended-release capsules whole, do not open. Do not take more of this medicine than is prescribed by your doctor. If your doctor has given you a suppository, follow these steps: If the suppository feels soft, hold it under cold, running water for 1 minute. Dip the tip of the suppository in water. Lie down on your left side and raise your right knee to your chest. (A left-handed person should lie on the right side and raise the left knee.) Using your finger, insert the suppository into the rectum, about 1/2 to 1 inch in infants and children and 1 inch in adults. Hold it in place for a few moments. Stand up after about 15 minutes. Wash your hands thoroughly and resume your normal activities. Top of page
Missed Dose
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses. Top of page
Storage
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture. Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Top of page
Possible Side Effects
Contact your health care provider if the following side effects become bothersome or don't go away; dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, rash, constipation, vision changes, difficulty urinating
If you experience involuntary movements, sore throat, pounding heart beat, or unusual bruising or bleeding, notify your doctor at once.
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. Top of page
Drug Interactions
Tell your doctor and pharmacist about all other medicines that you are taking, including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal products.
This medicine should be taken during pregnancy only when clearly needed. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits when using this medicine during pregnancy. This medicine may be excreted in breast milk. Nursing mothers are advised to talk to their doctors before breast-feeding. Top of page

This drug was stabilizing and balancing

This was very good with getting me to stabilize. I would need to calm down right away and it did that. It is much like Zyprexa but lighter. I slept great and felt calm the years I was on it. I thought clearly. I have Bi-polar and it helped me a great deal. It is older and has possiblity of Tradive Diskenesia. I finally quit it because I was worried I was getting it. But for about 3 years it helped me a great deal. I went back to school, did better with my son, etc. I stopped using alcohol and really grew during that time. I opened up alot during therapy with this drug. I might add, I took a relitively small 25mg dose one to three times a day. The old stories about this drug aren't true and if they are even remotely true it may be because hospital patients were injected with upwards of 500mg or more of the drug. All and all the drug is great especially when involved in counceling and working through deep issues from childhood which I was doing, well with this drug.

parkinson's symptoms. couldn't coordinate legs to walk or hands to eat
I had been on this med for quite awhile trying to control my anxiety level because my pdoc found that is worked well for anxiety problems. I was also dealing with nausea from the migraine pain I was having so I was also being perscribed compozine for the nausea. One day it hit it that I couldn't walk into the bathroom. My legs couldn't figure out how to take one step & then another. At the same time, when I tried to eat, I couldn't hold the fork in my hand let alone get food from the plate to my mouth. Fear hit & ended up going to urgent care. The first suggestion was to stop the compozine because it was known to have that effect. When that didn't stop the symptoms, I ended up going back to my neurologist who decided that the thorazine could also be causing the problem. It took over a month for the symptoms to go away after stopping the thorazine immediately.....but it was the cause....combined with the compozine before it. It is scary experiencing something that serious without knowing what is causing it expecially when it takes so long for the symptoms to go away after stopping the meds.

Pros:
Helped me relax and get to sleep. There was a time when there was nothing better for psychosis.
Cons:
Akathisia. This drug got a bad rep in the 60s when it was sometimes used in extremely heavy doses, often for people on bad LSD trips.
The side effects of Thorazine can be pretty unpleasant, but it was the only drug I had for a seven-year period in the 1990s, and I managed to stay out of the hospital for a record length of time.
